There is a historical story on the Shri Kshetra Sigandur staying of Goddess Sri Chowdeshwari Devi here and blessing thousands of his devotees. Way back in 18th Century there was place called MADENOOR village in KARUR grama panchayathi which falls in Sagar taluk and Shimoga district. Around hundred families stayed here with agriculture as their main occupation and some times hunting. In this village Shri Sheshappa Nayak family also lived who is real cause for the Shri Devi to come to earth and bless thousands of her devotees.

​ They pray to “CHOWDI” who they worship from years. As time passes one day Shri Sheshappa decide to go for hunting at “SEEGE VALLEY” forest with this villagers, during his hunting he left alone and missed out from other villagers eventually missing the route. He was scared as it was getting dark with the sun set, he suddenly saw bright light and shocked then Shri Sheshappa shouted “Save Me CHOWADAMMA” and he lost consensus and fell down. After sometime he woke up and saw with blur eyes some shining stone and there was a echo with sweet mother like voice saying “Don’t Worry Son, I will be staying here to bless the world, build a temple here for me and worship me here as “CHOWDAMMA” and I will bless all the devotees who come here to pray me”. He woke up fully and surprisingly started finding way back to home and he slept off. Next day morning he tried to recall what happened yesterday at valley and quickly finished his bath, Pooja and started towards the ‘SEEGE Valley’ location again. He was surprised and socked to see AADI SHAKTI stayed in a shining stone.

From that day, the daily routines of Shri Sheshappa got changed and he started daily Pooja early morning to Aadi Shakti and does all his regular works after than. He feels that doing the daily Pooja would be auspicious if done from Brahmian Poojari as they does it more Bakthi and as per the Veda, Purana. So he want to village panchayat and narrated about the entire story which happened and asked them to nominate one Brahmin to do Pooja on a daily basis. They all said for Sri Devi there is no any cast or any religion, so you are the right person to do Pooja hence you continue doing the same and get blessings to us. But Shri Sheshappa is not convinced and he insisted for bramana poojari and then they agreed finally. Together they built a temple and stated daily Pooja in presence of Shri Sheshappa and many devotees started coming to this valley and blessed with Sri Devi Chowdeshwari solving their all sorrows and disputes and stayed happily.

Currently Sri Ramappa has been nominated as Dharmadarshi of Shri Keshtra. He was born on 13th May 1953. Days passed and Shri Ramappa started growing with good education and daily Pooja blessings of Shri Devi. The villagers very happy and they where running satisfied life.

One day they received the news from Governament of Karantaka that they are building a dam to river Sharavati called “Linganamakki” dam and they are forced to shift to different location as per government instructions, as they dont have any option the entire family got shifted to Holekoppa village under Ulavi grama panchayat on 1963 when the dam was completed. They left behind all the houses, plowing field and temple also, all these completely in water then.

The temple was under water now and the only possibility of the pooja was during the Summar when the water level is low. Still Shri Ramappa and family continued to worship during such days from the SEEGE valley itself.

Days passed Shri Ramappa grown up with completing his education with continuous focus on agriculture which was gifted from his father and he could able to grow well with his education and Shri Devi blessings. He then nominated to Panchayat head and did many social works which made him more popular and responsible. He then appointed as APMC President. Althought he was excelling in his life but has strong feeling of shifting of the temple to different place where the daily worship is possible.

Shri Ramappa made this strong mind and put all his efforts to shift but could not succeed as Sri Devi Ma was not allowing to do so. Shri Rammappa one day prayed to Goddess Sri Chowdeshwari assuring that he will ensure shifting will happen as per instructions of her and sacrament only. Then Sri Devi Ma gave permission to shift to new location at SIGANDUR which is near and above the hills on 10th February 1990 without any luxury arrangements as it was in the middle of the forest.

Initially it was a small temple in the middle of the forest and started worshiping of Sri Chowdeswari as per Shastra. In order to reach Sigandur peoples has to cross 2.5 km with a small ship to cross river water. But peoples didn’t stop they started coming in thousands and lakhs. Shri Ramappa worked hard to ensure basic amenities like road, food, water and shelter to the devotees. Today Shri Kshetra Sigandur is well managed with Good connectivity roads, Launcher facility to cross the Dam water, specious area for parking vehicles, well maintained Guest house, Goshala, Kalayana Mantapa, Yagashale, Annadana Hall, delicious serving hotel, and common clean hygienic toilets.

Currently Sigandur can be reached by road or from launcher and Shri Kshetra is providing free meals to devotees at afternoon and night every day with the blessings of Sri Devi Chowedeshwari.

Shri Ravi Kumar who is son of Shri Ramappa also supported him to ensure educational progress under charitable trust to serve poor children who needs quality education. Shri Ravi is also playing key role in publishing the monthly magazine called “Sigandur Vani”.
